Humble Beginnings

Knight Office Solutions was founded by Mitch Huffman during the economic downturn of the early 1990s. Operating out of a backyard shed, the new venture quickly won over customers by providing an alternative to high-priced toner cartridges. Soon, customers began asking for other services. In response, Knight become an authorized HP reseller and service provider in 1993. The company would grow steadily in the years that followed.

New Connections

Recognizing an increased demand for network-connected printers, Knight expanded its offering to include multifunction products (MFP) in 2003, bringing on longtime industry leader, John Cheney. Soon after, the company became an authorized Lanier dealer. The customer was right again. Driven by a booming demand for MFPs, Knight’s revenue would grow by 80 percent over the next three years.

Meanwhile, 80 miles north, Austin was rapidly becoming a major hub for the tech industry. With significant customer overlap between the two markets, Knight expanded to the Texas capital in 2007. Leading the new office would be industry veteran George Ross. Despite a global financial recession, the company continued to grow, becoming an authorized Sharp dealer in 2009.

Changing Needs

Also in 2009, Knight introduced document management services to address the customer need for workflow efficiency. The following year, the company would again expand its offering, this time introducing managed IT services. Well received, these additions would precede a major expansion of the company’s San Antonio headquarters in 2015.

Three years later, Knight would purchase Business Product Supply of Corpus Christi, establishing a physical presence in Texas’ growing Coastal Bend. The acquisition signaled a new era for the company, raising Knight’s total employee count above 100. Indeed, much has changed in the thirty years since Knight’s founding, but one thing has remained constant: Our commitment to serving our customers’ needs.
