Knight Office Solutions was founded by Mitch Huffman during the economic downturn of the early 1990s. Huffman’s garage-based upstart quickly won over customers by providing an alternative to high-priced toner cartridges. Soon, customers began asking for other services. In response to these requests, Knight became an HP Authorized Reseller and Service Provider in 1993. The company would grow steadily in the years that followed.
Ushered in by the digital revolution of the early 2000s, demand for network-ready products reached a fever pitch in 2003. Recognizing the need for connected multifunction printers (MFP), Knight brought on longtime industry leader, John Cheney. Soon after, the company became an Authorized Lanier Dealer. The customer was right again. Driven by a booming MFP business, Knight’s revenue grew by 80 percent over the next three years.
Eighty miles north, another revolution was in the works: Austin, Texas was rapidly becoming a major hub for the tech industry. This, combined with significant customer overlap between the two markets, made expansion a natural development. Leading the new Austin location would be industry veteran George Ross. Despite a global financial recession, Knight continued to grow, becoming an Authorized Sharp Dealer and eventually outgrowing its San Antonio office.
In 2009, as organizations increasingly turned to digital record keeping, Knight introduced document management services to address customer need for improved workflow. The following year, the company expanded its wheelhouse once again, introducing managed IT services. These additions were well received, and just five years after relocating to a new office, Knight augmented its San Antonio space with an additional 12,000 sqft. lease.
On the heels of 15 consecutive years of revenue growth, Knight expanded to Corpus Christi with the acquisition of Business Product Supply, Inc. in 2018. The purchase signaled a new era for the company, raising Knight’s total employee count above 100. Indeed, much has changed in nearly 30 years, but one thing never will: our commitment to serving our customers’ needs with best-in-class products and honest, reliable service.
